The Messy Middle
Faith in Politics – Part 3
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples…” John 13:34-35 (NIV)
Ministry in the Messy Middle
1 Corinthians 9:19-23
1. Maintain the right posture.
“Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to EVERYONE, to win as many as possible.” vs. 19 (NIV)
“…he (Jesus) gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave…” Philippians 2:7 (NLT
2. Watch my tone.
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” 1 Corinthians 13:1 (NIV)
“…Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the HOPE that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
3. Take the right approach.
“To the Jews I became like a Jew…To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law)…To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law)…To the weak I became weak…” vs. 20-22 (NIV)
“…I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.” vs. 22b (NIV)
4. Remember my mission.
“I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.” vs. 23 (NIV)
