The Sacrifice of Obedience

(Genesis 22:1-18)

 

1.  Be                                           and listen.

“Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. ‘Abraham!’ God called. ‘Yes,’ he replied. ‘Here I am.’” vs. 1 (NIV)

“…Be still, and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

 

 

2. Neglect what’s                                         

“Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey… On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.” vs. 3-4 (NIV)

“Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching…Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching…’” John 14:23-24 (NIV)

 

 

3. Expect God to                                               

“‘Do not lay a hand on the boy,’ he said. ‘Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God… Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns…” vs. 12-13 (NIV)

 

 

4. Rejoice in God’s                                                    

“I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky…” vs. 16-17 (NIV)
