Awake and Alive – Part 7 – Contentment Awakened

July 14, 2024

“…have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.” 1 Timothy 6:5b (NIV)

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.” 1 Timothy 6:6 (NIV)

How to Develop True Contentment

1 Timothy 6:6-29

  1. Requires the desire for a godly life

“…godliness WITH contentment…”  vs. 6 (NIV)

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 (NIV)

“…your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:32-33 (NIV)

2. Requires a godly perspective

“For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.” vs. 7 (NIV)

“But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.” vs. 8 (NIV)

3. Requires godly decisions

“Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires… For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil…” vs. 9-10a (NIV)

“Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” vs. 10b (NIV)

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth…but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” vs. 17 (NIV)

“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” vs. 18 (NIV)
