Jesus and Politics – Faith in Politics Week 1 | Phillip Lee

Jesus & Politics

Faith in Politics – Part 1

“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called…” 1 Timothy 6:12 (NIV)

Keeping Faith in Elections

1) Recognize the limits of politics.

“God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church.” Ephesians 1:22 (NLT)

“…I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” Matthew 16:18 (NLT)

2) Know where your hope comes from.

“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.” Psalm 146:3 (NIV)

“…Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength…But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.” Jeremiah 17:5, 7 (NLT)

3) Value unity over winning.

“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.” Ephesians 4:2-4 (NLT

4) Focus on character.

“The heart of the wise leads to right, but the heart of a fool leads to wrong.” Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NCV)

“Scoundrels use wicked methods, they make up evil schemes… But the noble make noble plans, and by noble deeds they stand.” Isaiah 32:7-8 (NIV)
