Wonderful Counselor

Christmas at Cedar Creek – Part 1

Isaiah 9:1-6

“Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan. The people walking in darkness HAVE seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light HAS dawned.” Isaiah 9:1-2 (NIV)

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders… And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)

How to let Jesus be my Wonderful Counselor

  • It requires a relationship.

“For to US a child is born, to US a son is given…” Isaiah 9:6a (NIV)

“…God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them…God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:19, 21 (NIV)

  • Engage with His Word.

“Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.” Isaiah 8:20 (NIV)

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

  • Listen to His Spirit.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.”  John 14:16-17 (NIV)

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will GUIDE YOU into all the truth…” John 16:13 (NIV)

  • Lean into other believers.

“The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.” Proverbs 12:15 (NIV)
