Covenant – Part 1
“So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member BELONGS to all the others.” Romans 12:5 (NIV)
Covenant = A mutually agreed upon commitment as to how we will live out our faith together.
I will protect the unity of my church.
“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be NO DIVISIONS among you, but that you be perfectly UNITED in mind and thought.”
I will protect the unity of my church by…
…growing spiritually.
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
…following the leadership of the church.
“Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.”
…acting in love towards other members.
“Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have SINCERE love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.” 1 Peter 1:22 (NIV)
…not gossiping.
“A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.” Proverbs 16:28 (NIV)
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)
