Help for my Anxious Mind – Anxious for Nothing – Part 1
Help for my Anxious Mind
Anxious for Nothing
Part 1
(2 Chronicles 20:1-27)
Anxiety is not a sin; it is a symptom.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
“After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat. Some people came and told Jehoshaphat, ‘A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Dead Sea. It is already in Hazezon Tamar,” vs. 1-2 (NIV)
1) Choose prayer over panic.
“Jehoshaphat was TERREFIED by this news and BEGGED the Lord for guidance. He also ordered EVERYONE in Judah to begin fasting.” vs. 3 (NLT)
Prayer reminds me…
…who God is!
“…you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!” vs. 6 (NLT)
…what God has done.
“…did you not drive out those who lived in this land when your people Israel arrived?” vs. 7 (NLT)
…of my inadequacy.
“…We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.” vs. 12 (NLT)
2) Start depending on God rather than myself.
“…Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” vs. 15 (NIV)
“…Just STAND STRONG in your places, and you will see the Lord save you… So GO OUT against those people tomorrow.’ ” vs. 17 (NCV)
3) Thank God in advance.
“Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness AS THEY WENT out at the head of the army…” vs. 21 (NIV)
“At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves.” vs. 22 (NLT)
“Then, led by Jehoshaphat, all the men of Judah and Jerusalem returned joyfully to Jerusalem, for the Lord had given them cause to rejoice…” vs. 27 (NIV)
