Generosity is a Mindset
Developing a Generous Mindset
(2 Cor. 8:1-15)
1) Shift from not enough to more than enough.
“In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity…they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability…” vs. 2-3 (NIV)
“…we want you to know about the grace that GOD HAS GIVEN the Macedonian churches.” vs. 1 (NIV)
“And my God will meet ALL YOUR NEEDS according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (NIV
2) Manage money God’s way.
“And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves FIRST OF ALL to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.” vs. 5 (NIV)
“The Lord wants honest balances and scales; all the weights are his work.” Proverbs 16:11 (NCV)
3) Take a long-term view.
“…Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means.” vs. 10-11 (NIV)
“Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.” Proverbs 21:5 (NLT)
4) Make a plan and stick to it!
“But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” vs. 7 (NIV)
“Know the state of your flocks, and put your heart into caring for your herds, for riches don’t last forever…”
Proverbs 27:23-24 (NLT)
Bottom Line:
Genuine servanthood is without recognition and without reservation.
