God Helps Those Who Help Themselves – Part 2
“…you will know the TRUTH, and the TRUTH will set you free.” John 8:32 (NIV)
I access God’s help by recognizing and responding to my total dependence on Him.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; APART from me, you can do NOTHING.” John 15:5 (NIV)
I Express Dependence By…
(John 15:7-13)
1) …aligning my prayers with His promises.
“If you remain in me and MY WORDS remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” vs. 7 (NIV)
2) …living for His glory.
“This is to my Father’s glory, that you BEAR MUCH FRUIT, showing yourselves to be MY DISCIPLES.” vs. 8 (NIV)
“…We all show the Lord’s glory, and we are being changed to BE LIKE HIM. This change in us brings ever greater glory, which comes from the Lord…” 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NCV)
3) …obeying out of love not for His love.
“If you keep my commands, you will REMAIN in my love just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.” vs. 10 (NIV)
“But people cannot do any work that will make them right with God. So they must TRUST in him…Then God accepts their faith, and that makes them right with him.” Romans 4:5 (NCV)
4) …loving and serving others.
“…Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” vs. 12-13 (NIV)
“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.” Matthew 16:25 (NLT)
