How to Come and Follow Jesus
(Luke 5:1-11)
1) Trust Him with my emptynet moments.
“Master, we worked hard all night trying to catch fish, and we caught nothing. But you say to put the nets in the water, so I will.” vs. 5 (NCV)
“…he bowed down before Jesus and said, ‘Go away from me, LORD. I am a SINFUL man!’” vs. 8 (NCV)
2) Be prepared to adjust my priorities.
“…Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!’ And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.” vs. 10-11 (NLT)
“You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God.” 1 Peter 4:2 (NLT)
3) Move from commitment to surrender.
“Peter declared, ‘Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you…Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!’” Matthew 26:33, 35 (NLT)
“Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love (agape) me more than these?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ he said, ‘you know that I love (phileo) you. Jesus said, ‘Feed my lambs.’” John 21:15 (NIV)
