Day 30

1 Timothy 6:20-21

20 O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” 21for by professing it some have swerved from the faith. Grace be with you. 1 Timothy 6:20-21

Paul’s final message to Timothy is both personal and theological. He uses the metaphor of a deposit to remind Timothy of the preciousness of the Gospel. This image of something valuable to be safeguarded aligns with the entire letter’s theme. Additionally, Paul’s personal connection with Timothy—remembering his conversion and leadership commission—undoubtedly colors his concluding remarks.

Paul doesn’t leave without a final warning against false teachers and their message. He emphasizes that Gospel truth extinguishes false knowledge. The letter’s closing words remind Timothy of the cornerstone of the Gospel: God’s grace. Paul concludes by urging Timothy to cling to this grace, lead by it, and live it out.
