A Life-Changing Encounter with Jesus

(John 20:19-23)

1) Jesus meets us where we are.

“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’” vs. 19 (NIV)

2) Jesus shows us His love.

“After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.” vs. 20 (NIV)

“But God demonstrates his own love for US in this: While we were STILL SINNERS, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (NIV)

3) Jesus calls us to a higher purpose.

“Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am SENDING YOU.’” vs. 21 (NIV)

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it TO THE FULL.” John 10:10 (NIV)

4) Jesus offers us the freedom of forgiveness.

“If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” vs. 23 (NIV)

“…he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:13-14 (NLT)

“And this is the way to have eternal life—TO KNOW YOU, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.” John 17:3 (NLT)
