Step Into Connection – Next Steps – Part 1
Step Into Connection
Next Steps
Part 1
“…I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward WHAT IS AHEAD, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV)
“Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.” 2 Corinthians 3:1-2 (NIV)
Stepping Towards Deeper Connections
(2 Corinthians 3:1-11)
1) Based on Christ’s work not my works.
“You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with INK but with the SPIRIT of the living God, not on TABLETS of stone but on tablets of HUMAN HEARTS.” vs. 3 (NIV)
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Hebrews 10:24 (NIV)
“…for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” vs. 6 (NIV)
2) Requires humility.
“…Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant…” vs. 5-6 (NIV)
“…God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” James 4:6 (NIV)
“…it (Love) does not boast, it is not proud.” 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NIV)
3) Is ultimately for God’s glory.
“If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!” vs. 9 (NIV)
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 (NIV)
“…I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3 (NLT)
