Spiritual Growth Habits
Habits
Part 3
“For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to BECOME LIKE HIS SON…” Romans 8:29 (NLT)
“Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching… Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way MORE AND MORE LIKE CHRIST, who is the head of his body, the church.” Ephesians 4:14-15 (NLT)
Habits for Spiritual Growth
1) Consistently connect with God and other believers.
“But Jesus OFTEN withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Luke 5:16 (NIV)
“…Jesus didn’t want anyone to know he was there, for he wanted to SPEND MORE TIME with his disciples and teach them…” Mark 9:30-31 (NLT)
2) Responding to troubles with trust.
“…he (Jesus) began to be DEEPLY DISTRESSED and TROUBLED. ‘My soul is OVERWHELMED with sorrow to the point of death…’” Mark 14:33-34 (NIV)
“‘Father’, he cried out, ‘everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.’” Mark 14:36 (NIV)
3) Responding to temptations with obedience.
“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil.” Matthew 4:1 (NIV)
“Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” Matthew 4:10 (NIV)
4) Responding to wrongs with forgiveness.
“People walked by and insulted Jesus and shook their heads…the Jewish elders were also making fun of Jesus…And in the same way, the robbers who were being crucified beside Jesus also insulted him.” Matthew 27:39-44 (NLT)
“Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, because they don’t know what they are doing…’” Luke 23:34 (NLT)
“Since you have HEARD about Jesus and have LEARNED the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life…Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” Ephesians 4:21-24 (NLT)
