One Big Story

We Need a Hero – Part 7

““The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth…For in him we LIVE and MOVE and have our BEING.” Acts 17:24, 28 (NIV)

What the Death of Jesus Accomplishes

(Romans 3:21-28)

1) Purchased my forgiveness.

“For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (NIV)

“Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he FREED US from the PENALTY for our sins.” Romans 3:24 (NLT)

2) Paid my debt.

“For the wages of sin is DEATH…” Romans 6:23 (NLT)

“God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood – to be received by faith…” Romans 3:25 (NIV)

“Christ entered the Most Holy Place only once—and for all time. He did not take with him the blood of goats and calves. His sacrifice was HIS OWN BLOOD, and by it he set us free from sin forever.” Hebrews 9:12 (NCV)

3) Preserved God’s character.

“…He did this to demonstrate HIS RIGHTOUSNESS, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished.” Romans 3:35b (NIV)

“He did it…so as to be just AND the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:26 (NIV)

4) Provided reconciliation.

“…our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. So we are MADE RIGHT with God through faith and not by obeying the law.” Romans 27b-28 (NIV)
