One Big Story

Our Story Begins – Part 2

“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth…he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else…For in him we LIVE and MOVE and HAVE OUR BEING.” Acts 17:24-28 (NIV)

Lessons from Creation

(Genesis 1-2)

1) God is powerful and creative.

“In the beginning God CREATED the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (NLT)

“If anyone belongs to Christ, there is a NEW CREATION. The old things have gone; everything is made new!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NCV)

2) The importance of God’s Word.

“And God said…” Genesis 1:3,6,9,14,20,24 (NIV)

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from WHAT HAS BEEN MADE, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20 (NIV)

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us…” John 1:14 (NIV)

3) God has a plan.

“God looked at everything he had made, and it was VERY GOOD…” Genesis 1:31 (NLT)

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

4) It’s God’s story and we have place in it.

“The heavens declare the GLORY OF GOD, and the skies announce what HIS HANDS have made.”Psalm 19:1 (NCV)

“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 (NCV)
