Awake & Alive: 1 Timothy Reading Plan

Day 10

1 Timothy 3:4-5

4He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, 5for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?

Building on the importance of family in church leadership, this passage highlights a key theme: a leader’s family life reflects their relationship with God. Scripture portrays family as a mirror image of humanity’s connection with the divine. Therefore, it’s crucial for those seeking to live on mission with the Gospel to prioritize their family. Nurturing a Christ-centered home is not a responsibility to be delegated – it’s of paramount importance. While discipling a family, especially children, can be daunting, it ultimately leads to a deeper joy and a stronger witness to the world.

This passage also offers comfort about God’s nature. Throughout scripture, He is depicted as a loving father, not a distant or punitive figure. He cares for and rescues His children, leading them in the best way. His love is the foundation of His character, and we can always trust His guidance. His grace covers our shortcomings and equips us for good works, even when they feel beyond our natural abilities.
